Devon Holiday Home with outdoor play area

Children's wooden play structure, wavy and enclosed slide, wood chip surround and wooden bench.

The Elms Holiday Home children's play area

Outdoor adventures, fresh air & space to play.

Surrounded by the rolling Devonshire hills, The Elms

self-catering holiday home in Devon offers far more than just a place to stay, it offers space to breathe, explore and truly enjoy time together.

Within the grounds of The Elms, you’ll find our large orchard, a wonderful open space where children can burn off energy, imaginations can run wild, and families can soak up the fresh country air. Set safely within this area is our family-friendly adventure playground, designed to delight children of all ages while giving parents peace of mind.

Here, young explorers can become mountaineers, scaling the Pinnacle rock wall, or climb the rope ladder up into the skybox, where pirate lookouts scan the fields beyond for passing ships. The journey back down is just as exciting, sliding down the wavy slide, spinning through the enclosed turbo slide, or bravely descending the fireman’s pole.

For our younger guests, the sand pit offers a calmer but equally magical space to dig for buried treasure, build castles and enjoy imaginative play at ground level.

A wooden seating area nearby allows parents, grandparents and carers to relax, watch the fun unfold, and enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing children play freely and safely in the countryside.

This outdoor space is often where some of the happiest holiday moments happen, laughter drifting across the orchard, children proudly showing off their latest adventure, and adults enjoying the peace of knowing everyone is having a wonderful time.

At The Elms, outdoor play is more than an activity.
It’s part of what makes your family-friendly, group holiday in Devon so memorable.

Space to roam, adventures to discover, and memories your family will treasure long after you’ve gone home.

Orchard play area for those family friendly holidays and having a kick around.

Our orchard play area, space, freedom & family time.

What truly sets The Elms apart from other self-catering holiday homes in Devon is our impressive Orchard play area, a space created with families in mind and surrounded by the beauty of the Devon countryside. Set safely away from the road, it offers peace of mind for parents and the freedom children need to play, explore and simply be children.

We’ve poured care and attention into developing this outdoor space into a place where children and adults alike can run freely, laugh loudly and enjoy hours of fun in the fresh air. It’s the kind of space where time slows down, shoes come off, and memories are made naturally.

There’s plenty of room for games and friendly competition, whether it’s a lively game of football, a spot of “anyone for cricket?”, shooting hoops at the tree basketball, enjoying some swing ball fun, flinging a Frisbee, or a relaxed game of bowls. Guests are very welcome to bring their own recreational games, and we also provide a selection of family holiday essentials to get the fun started.

While the children are busy creating their own adventures, parents and grandparents can settle onto our locally made wooden benches, watching the smiles, listening to the stories unfold, and soaking up the simple joy of seeing everyone happy and carefree. The Orchard is also a lovely place to sit together and enjoy a picnic, surrounded by open skies and rolling countryside.

At The Elms, the Orchard isn’t just a play area.
It’s where families reconnect, laughter fills the air, and holidays feel exactly as they should.

A family-friendly holiday home in Devon with space to play, relax and make lasting memories, waiting to welcome you.

Sunny day with bubbling hot tub, wooden benches on a gravel patio with sun umbrellas up green views.

Devon cottage with Hot Tub for ultimate relaxation and star gazing

Relax, unwind & soak in the moment.

At The Elms Devon holiday cottage with hot tub, life gently slows down. This is a place where you can step away from the noise of everyday life, breathe deeply, and simply enjoy being together.

After a full day exploring the many attractions of the West Country, there’s nothing quite like sinking into our six person hot tub, letting the warm water ease tired muscles and quiet busy minds. Whether it’s a crisp winter evening with snow dusting the hills or a balmy summer night as the sun sets over the valley, the hot tub is a favourite spot for guests of all ages.

The enclosed, gated garden offers reassurance for families with younger children, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy the outdoor space without added worries, a thoughtful detail that makes a real difference on a family or

multi-generational holiday.

Nearby, two large locally made wooden benches sit on stone chipped paving, creating a sociable outdoor area where all 12 guests can sit together. It’s the perfect setting for al fresco dining, relaxed barbecues, or simply enjoying a drink while taking in the peaceful Devon valley views.

As night falls, something truly special happens. With minimal light pollution, clear evenings reveal thousands of stars scattered across the sky. Stargazing here is unforgettable, quiet, magical, and grounding. On especially lucky nights, guests even catch a glimpse of a shooting star, a moment that stays with you long after the holiday ends.

From 1st April to 1st November, a charcoal barbecue is available, making summer evenings even more memorable with shared meals, laughter, and long conversations under open skies.

At The Elms, relaxation isn’t rushed. It’s shared, savoured, and remembered. A family-friendly, group holiday home in Devon where time slows, connections deepen, and memories are made and waiting for you.

Our holiday home offers guests the perfect self- catering retreat for everyone.

A place to slow down, reconnect & simply be.

Set within the peaceful Devon countryside, The Elms holiday home for groups of up to 12 guests is the perfect retreat for those longing to step away from busy routines, constant noise and everyday pressures and reconnect with what truly matters.

Whether you’re a family gathering across generations, a group of friends seeking time together, or guests looking for a meaningful countryside escape, The Elms offers space, calm and breathing room in abundance. Here, days unfold more slowly and moments are shared more deeply.

Our orchard, with its sweeping views across the rolling Devonshire hills, offers a naturally tranquil setting for yoga, reflection or spiritual practice. Early mornings bring birdsong and stillness; evenings offer golden light and quiet contemplation. It’s a space that gently invites you to pause, stretch, breathe and reconnect, both with yourself and with those around you.

For guests who prefer a gentler pace, the orchard is just as perfect for simply being. Roll out a blanket beneath the ancient apple tree, open a book, and let the sights and sounds of nature wash over you, the breeze in the branches, the distant calls of wildlife, the soft rhythm of countryside life.

There’s also a simple joy in the seasonal rhythms here. Guests are warmly invited to gather fallen apples from the orchard and take them back to The Elms’ self-catering kitchen, turning them into comforting desserts and shared treats, moments that often become some of the most cherished memories of a stay.

At The Elms, this isn’t just a holiday. It’s time to reconnect, restore and return home feeling truly refreshed.

The Elms play ground. Where childhood memories are made.

There’s something truly special about watching children play freely outdoors with laughter in the air, muddy shoes, rosy cheeks and imaginations running wild. We’ve created a space where those moments happen naturally.

Our holiday home is surrounded by open fields and fresh country air. What was once a forgotten, overgrown orchard has been lovingly transformed into a safe and welcoming play space for our younger guests.

Old fallen trees were cleared away, the land carefully levelled, and a beautiful wooden play centre added, not just as a playground, but as a place where adventures begin. Here, children become explorers, storytellers and heroes of their own games, often playing for hours without a second thought. While little ones climb, swing and create, parents and grandparents can sit back on locally made wooden benches, coffee in hand, smiling as they watch the joy unfold. It’s the kind of holiday moment that feels rare, where children are truly entertained, and adults can genuinely relax.

The orchard doesn’t stop at the play area, there’s plenty of space for older children and adults too. Perfect for football matches, running races, or simply stretching out and enjoying the freedom of wide open space.

At The Elms, we believe family holidays should be easy, inclusive and full of joy. From toddlers to teenagers, parents to grandparents, everyone has room to play and unwind.

This is why guests return, not just for the house, but for the feeling it gives.
